Plastic Surgery During COVID-19

Commonwealth Plastic Surgery

We are excited to be able to do elective surgeries as of May 6, 2020. It has taken some time to get caught up and be able to do longer surgeries as the facilities have been able to get back to 100% of capacity. We had over 35 surgeries to schedule, so we thank you for your patience as we have been trying to get everyone taken care of quickly while functioning with reduced staff due to the pandemic.

To keep our patients and staff healthy, we have made some changes to how we do things at our Commonwealth Plastic Surgery offices in Lexington and London, KY.

Consultations

Dr. Nimtz continues to see patients in his office, which spreads over 3,000 square feet and offers plenty of room for social distancing. Each of our rooms has a private bathroom, and sanitizing happens in each room between patients. We also have hand sanitizer placed throughout the office for patients and staff.

Please postpone your appointment if you feel sick, if you have a fever, cough, or shortness of breath or if you have knowingly been in contact with anyone who has tested positive for COVID-19.

In-office safety procedures

When you arrive for your appointment, we ask that you wear a mask as you enter our office. We will take your temperature upon arrival.  We do have a large waiting room, and while we prefer to room patients as they enter, we encourage patients to social distance as they move throughout our space, keeping 6 feet apart from one another.

Some procedures we perform in our office require removing masks, such as facials, dermal filler and BOTOX® Cosmetic injections, consultations regarding face and neck procedures, etc. We will continue to wear a mask, but it is not required for these consultations and procedures.

Scheduling appointments

We have two locations to serve patients: Lexington and London, KY.  Doctor Nimtz sees patients in consultation in Lexington on Monday and Tuesday and in London on the second and fourth Wednesday of the month. Our consultations are an hour each and book out about 2-3 weeks in advance. He is in high demand. We promise that Dr. Nimtz is well worth the wait, and he will give you individualized attention, so please be patient in scheduling and attending your consultation.

Saturday virtual appointments & pre-op visits

To meet our high demand, we have added some Saturday virtual appointments.  If you are a far distance from our office or simply wish to meet with Dr. Nimtz virtually, those virtual appointments are a great option.

However, we do require patients to come to a preoperative appointment in either Lexington or London 2 weeks to 10-days prior to surgery for operating room procedures. For in-office procedures, we will make a preoperative appointment via phone.

Surgery

We have made some changes to our surgery scheduling process. The most important is understanding that, in order to keep you healthy post-surgery and ensure the safety of anesthesiologists, surgeons, and surgery staff, all surgery patients undergoing general anesthesia require COVID testing. This test is scheduled 3 to 4 days before your surgery at the facility or a sister facility to the surgery location.

We see many patients from across the Commonwealth who would like to get COVID testing done close to home. It is our experience that, unless it is at the facility hosting your surgery, we struggle to get test results back in time to keep your scheduled surgery date. So plan on visiting your surgical facility 3 to 4 days prior to your surgery date.

If you are at a Baptist facility, we can arrange to have you tested at another Baptist facility where COVID testing is available. Still, our other surgery locations require that you do your COVID testing at their lab. This actually relieves a lot of the headache for you, the surgery staff, and our staff.  We will go over COVID testing dates and times about a day or two after your surgery is scheduled with the facility.

Please schedule your surgery about 1 to 2 months prior to your desired surgery date as we are currently booking surgeries for late September and early October of 2020. Doctor Nimtz operates on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Other dates may be available.

Many patients are opting to have more minimally invasive procedures, and we are happy to accommodate them in our in-office surgical suite. There, patients are treated with local anesthesia and kept numb and comfortable. We offer a variety of procedures, such as our signature Lunch Hour Lift, facial fat grafting, arm tightening, neck tightening, etc. These appointments are held on certain Wednesdays and Fridays in the month, and as with all appointments with Doctor Nimtz, they fill up quickly.

New! Commonwealth Plastic Surgery Center

To meet the high demand for surgeries with Commonwealth Plastic Surgery, we are expanding our office to include an in-house surgical suite. In addition to our current office, this is 2,000 extra square feet that will offer a private check-in and waiting room for surgery patients, a large operating room, a recovery room, a dressing room, and a large training and meeting room for our staff.

We are looking forward to serving our patients throughout the surgery process with the individualized care and attention we desire for our patients.  We will offer a one-stop-shop for skin care, BOTOX and fillers, consultations, in-office surgery, COVID testing, and operating/recovery room services.  We anticipate the construction to be completed by November 2020!
