Acne Treatments

CONSULTATION

Teenagers and adults alike want clear skin free of acne. Hormonal changes and other factors, however, can leave the skin prone to acne breakouts, especially if you have naturally oily skin. Commonwealth Plastic Surgery provides a range of acne treatments in Lexington and London, KY, that address each patient’s specific type of acne. Dr. Jared Nimtz is committed to helping patients achieve healthy, acne-free skin with his customized treatments.

What Is the Best Acne Treatment?

Most of the patients we see have tried at-home acne treatments, including topical and oral medications, without success. It’s important that the treatment is tailored to the type of acne you have, its cause, and its severity. Acne breakouts occur when excess production of sebum (an oily substance that protects the skin) combines with either bacteria or dead skin cells to clog pores.

The treatments offered at Commonwealth Plastic Surgery include AviClear®, the first and only energy device cleared by the FDA to treat mild, moderate, and severe acne, in addition to Hydrafacial®, chemical peels, and medical-grade skincare products.

What Is AviClear?

AviClear is one of the most significant advances in acne treatments in years, producing results comparable to Accutane® but without its adverse effects or the hassle of taking daily medication. AviClear uses laser energy to target sebum produced by the skin’s sebaceous glands. Not only do treatments clear up active breakouts, but the laser also limits oil production from these glands to balance sebum levels for months afterward.

Results that redefine what is possible
Clear Skin Results

How Many Treatments Are Needed?

In most cases, you’ll get optimal results after a series of 3, 30-minute treatment sessions scheduled 4 to 6 weeks apart. The laser wavelength used by AviClear is safe for all skin types.

How Long Is Recovery After AviClear Treatments?

You can expect your skin to appear red and sensitive for about a day following the treatment. There may be some mild swelling, too. Patients say it’s similar to getting sunburned. Some patients experience a temporary flare-up of acne. Because your skin will be more sensitive to UV rays than normal, it’s important to avoid direct sun exposure. We’ll provide detailed post-treatment skincare instructions, including the products to avoid.

How Much Does AviClear Cost?

The cost of a series of AviClear treatments depends on several factors and varies from patient to patient. After your consultation, we’ll provide a price estimate you can review before deciding to go ahead with the treatments.

What Is a Hydrafacial?

You can think of a Hydrafacial as a souped-up microdermabrasion treatment. It uses a unique 3-step process that clears acne by combining exfoliation with the infusion of serums specifically designed to promote clear, radiant skin. It’s a soothing, noninvasive alternative to laser skin treatment and chemical peels.

Hydrafacial 3-Step Process

The 3 steps involved in a Hydrafacial treatment include:

Cleanse and Peel

A Hydrafacial treatment begins with exfoliation—removing dead skin cells from the skin’s outer layer and clearing away dirt to expose healthier skin.

Extract and Hydrate

Using the same wand-shaped device, your aesthetic specialist suctions acne-causing impurities from the pores.

Infuse and Protect

Chosen for their effectiveness in helping protect your skin from future acne breakouts, skin boosters (serums) are delivered into the newly unclogged pores.

You can discuss whether a Hydrafacial is the best option for you during the consultation.

What Is a Chemical Peel?

The versatility of chemical peels makes them an attractive treatment option for a range of skin concerns. Superficial chemical peels help minimize mild acne and improve the texture and tone of your skin. The most common peels used to treat active acne include glycolic or salicylic acid as their active ingredients. Both exfoliate the epidermis, removing dead skin cells and unclogging pores without the downtime associated with more powerful peels.
