What Procedures Are Usually Included in a Mommy Makeover?

Dr. Nimtz personalizes each mommy makeover to the unique cosmetic goals of the patient. Because most want to correct the changes from pregnancy and breastfeeding, the following procedures are commonly included:

Certain procedures may need to be performed separately for optimal safety and recovery. Dr. Nimtz will create a surgical plan that is both safe and satisfying for you.

Is It Safe To Have a Mommy Makeover?

When mommy makeovers are performed by a board-certified plastic surgeon, these combination procedures are safe for carefully screened patients. You can optimize your safety and results by:

  • Choosing a plastic surgeon who frequently performs mommy makeover procedures.
  • Closely following your doctor’s pre- and post-op instructions.
  • Arranging a trusted adult for the first few days (or more) after surgery to help with meals, errands, self-care, children, pets, and other daily responsibilities.

What Are the Benefits of a Mommy Makeover?

Combining plastic surgery procedures into a single surgery gives patients a variety of benefits over having them performed separately, including:

  • More dramatic results
  • Single exposure to anesthesia
  • Cost savings
  • Reduced time off work
  • Minimized recovery period

How Soon After Having Children Can I Undergo a Mommy Makeover?

Dr. Nimtz recommends waiting for at least 6 months after delivery (longer if you are breastfeeding) before having a mommy makeover. We understand that you are ready to restore the shape of your breasts and body after months or even years of sacrifice. It’s important to give your body some time to reset first by allowing your:

  • Uterus to shrink down.
  • Skin and tissues to retract as much as possible.
  • Hormone levels to return to normal.
  • Weight to stabilize.

Will I Need To Lose Weight Before Surgery?

Significant weight changes can “undo” plastic surgery results, so you should be at or near your target weight before having a mommy makeover. If your BMI is too high, having surgery can be risky as well.

Will I Need Help After Surgery?

You will need the help of a supportive, caring adult for at least a week after your mommy makeover to assist with self-care, meal prep, housework, children, pets, and daily errands. At first, you will not be able to physically do some of the things you normally do like washing your hair, lifting a baby or child, walking your dog, or cleaning the cat box. You also need to make a dedicated effort to take it easy and allow your body to heal. Being mindful at this time is the best way to minimize complications that could extend the recovery process.

The following tips can help you help yourself before surgery:

  • Stock up on healthy, easy-to-prepare meals.
  • Fill your prescriptions.
  • Make sure you have comfortable tops that button in the front and pants with an elastic waist.
  • Put together a quiet, comfortable recovery area with blankets and extra pillows.

Can I Get a Mommy Makeover if I’ve Never Been Pregnant?

Certainly! There are various reasons patients want to combine plastic surgery procedures, including losing a significant amount of weight and addressing the effects of aging on the breasts and body.

Can a Mommy Makeover Include a C-section Scar Revision?

If you are having a tummy tuck , Dr. Nimtz will remove your C-section scar while making the incision. He can also perform scar revision if you are not having a tummy tuck. While you will still end up with an abdominal scar, your incision will be carefully planned and executed by a plastic surgeon instead of being created during childbirth when the safety of you and your baby take priority over cosmetic concerns.

What Happens if You Get Pregnant After a Mommy Makeover?

While pregnancy after a mommy makeover is perfectly safe, it will likely compromise the improvements from your surgery. If you’re still thinking of having another baby, it’s best to postpone having a mommy makeover and invest your money and recovery time wisely.

How Much Weight Do You Lose With a Mommy Makeover?

Mommy makeovers are not meant for weight loss; in fact, you should be at a healthy, stable weight before having the surgery. The good news is that patients often lose one or more clothing sizes after the surgery once their lax skin is tightened, pockets of fat are removed, and protruding abdominal muscles are repaired.

Is Mommy Makeover Surgery Painful?

Discomfort should be expected for the first week or so after mommy makeover surgery especially if you have a tummy tuck with abdominal muscle repair. In most cases, the pain medication Dr. Nimtz prescribes when taken as directed makes the discomfort manageable. Patients usually only need prescription medication for 3 to 7 days, although experiences and pain tolerances vary.

Are Mommy Makeovers Worth It?

Most patients say, “Yes!” While mommy makeovers involve a significant investment in money and recovery time, once recovered, the vast majority of patients say it’s worth it to feel comfortable and confident again in their own skin.
