How Is a Mommy Makeover Performed?
Dr. Nimtz performs mommy makeover surgery using general anesthesia administered by a board-certified anesthesiologist at a local hospital. For the highest level of safety and comfort, mommy makeover patients who undergo multiple procedures together may choose to stay overnight in the hospital.
How Long Does the Surgery Take?
The surgical time for mommy makeovers typically ranges from 3 to 6 hours, depending on the procedures being performed and individual patient factors. Dr. Nimtz takes care to limit the length of surgery to ensure patient safety, which means in some cases, patients may need a second surgery.

The recovery and healing process following any cosmetic surgery is unique to each patient. A mommy makeover involves multiple procedures, so the recovery process can be a bit more challenging. The benefit is that you only have to plan for a single recovery period.
General Recovery Timeline
Week 1: The first week is typically the most challenging for mommy makeover patients so it’s essential to have a caring adult around for help. It’s important to do some gentle walking frequently throughout the day to minimize complications. After about 3 to 7 days, most patients no longer need pain medication. Take this time to relax and take it easy.
Week 2: Drains and sutures are usually removed around day 6 to 10. Many patients are ready to return to work if they have non-strenuous jobs; others may need another week or so of downtime.
Weeks 3 to 5: Patients can gradually increase the intensity of their walks. Bruising dissipates.
Week 6 and beyond: More vigorous activities and weight lifting can be slowly resumed if cleared by Dr. Nimtz. Scars are usually bright pink at this point and will gradually fade over the following year. Swelling is normal after undergoing a mommy makeover; it usually takes about 4 to 5 months to completely resolve.
