‘Tis the Season

We get asked all the time by our patients from Lexington and the surrounding cities if there are trends to plastic surgery. The answer is: Yes! There are seasonal procedures, and you might consider some of the traditional “seasons” for surgery as you plan to look your best for the holidays!

The Holidays

Surgery becomes popular during the Thanksgiving break and the busy season runs through the New Year. This time of the year is great for body contouring procedures such as liposuction, tummy tuck, and mommy makeovers. These procedures are popular during the holidays due to the 3-5 months needed for recovery and the time needed before patients can see their results, just in time for the summer months. It is also easier to wear supportive, restorative garments used for healing after surgery, when the weather is cooler, and it’s easier to layer up. Due to the popularity of surgeries during the holidays, it’s important to schedule your consultation sooner, rather than later. Remember, the surgery times will fill up quicker than usual!

The New Year

January is goal-setting time and that is no different when it comes to anti-aging procedures. The new year is the time to think about facial procedures like laser resurfacing, facelift, and eyelid lift so that vulnerable facial incisions aren’t affected by intense sunlight, which can slow the healing process. For patients who are worried about aging and sun damaged skin, we would recommend a resurfacing chemical peel, such as a laser skin resurfacing treatment or an Obagi Blue Peel®. These deeper peels sluff off the aged, pigmented skin on the surface of the face to give you fresh, brightened and toned skin. This is also a great time to think about a new skin care regimen both in our office and at home, such as our Obagi or SkinCeuticals® lines, both of which we sell in our Lexington and London locations. Our skincare nurses offer consultations to get you started and to help educate you on our monthly facial treatments, such as dermaplaning, to stave off the aging processes with regular exfoliation. The new year is the perfect time to commit to a new skincare regimen.

Spring

Breast augmentation and other breast enhancement procedures are always a top cosmetic procedure during the springtime, so patients can be bathing suit ready in summer. It’s important to note that breast implants can take 2-4 weeks to drop into proper position following surgery; this gives sufficient time for that to occur. Spring surgery also gives patients the time they need to be completely healed before heading to the pool, beach or lake.

Another reason we see more surgery in the spring is because of Uncle Sam, as tax returns help patients fund the surgery they’ve been wanting for years!

Summer

We find that patients often have more flexibility during the summer, meaning it’s still a popular time for surgery. You should remember, however, that after surgery you should not submerge in water for 2 weeks, so consider this when taking trips to the pool and when planning those beach vacations. Dr. Nimtz reminds patients that sand and incisions don’t mix well!

Fall

Fall tends to be the busiest time for our patients as they get their kids settled into school and their normal routine, so they don’t have a lot of time for surgery or the recovery that comes with it. This is a great time to fit in those nonsurgical treatments like BOTOX® Cosmetic and dermal fillers. At Commonwealth Plastic Surgery, we offer competitive pricing on BOTOX and facial fillers and Dr. Nimtz also offers facial fat grafting, which is a great procedure for middle-aged men and women who feel like they need frequent fillers but aren’t quite ready for that more invasive facelift procedure.
