Let’s Talk About the Cost of Plastic Surgery

The Cost of Plastic Surgery

With the rise of social media, we are constantly surrounded by targeted advertisements. For people who are considering plastic surgery, these advertisements often show us what we want most — the ability to have the surgery of our dreams without the high price tag.

Patients want to save money on plastic surgery and with good reason, but low-cost surgery locations are not the same type of plastic surgery practice we offer at Commonwealth Plastic Surgery.

What am I Paying For?

When you have any surgery, you typically have three costs: the surgeon’s fee, the facility/supply fee, and the anesthesiologist’s fee. We see locations advertise breast augmentations “starting at $1900,” which sounds great! But when you read further, you realize that is the cost for just the facility, not the implants, surgeon or anesthesia.

Does A Board Certified Plastic Surgeon Really Matter?

As more businesses move into the aesthetic market, it is important to know what certifications mean. When a surgeon is Board Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, this surgeon has passed rigorous evaluations in advertising, surgery protocols, after-care and continuing education. This is not the same as someone who is a Board Certified Cosmetic Surgeon or Aesthetic Surgeon.

Is Dr. Nimtz Board Certified?

Yes! In addition to being a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon, he is also a member of The Aesthetic Society — a subset of plastic surgeons who complete a certain number of cosmetic cases in areas such as breast augmentations, breast lifts, tummy tucks, facelifts, rhinoplasty, etc. — as well as the American Board of Maxillofacial Surgeons.

Is Travel Surgery Really Saving Me Money?

When traveling for surgery, it is important not to make a decision by advertising and cost alone. The lowest cost for surgery may not be providing the same standard of care, and surgery does require follow up visits to ensure everything is healing as it should. If you do not have a one-on-one consultation with your surgeon prior to surgery or post ops after surgery, it is important to do your research on the facility and physician. It is important for me to educate patients on the best options for their surgery, the after care, and the cost. Patient safety is Dr. Nimtz’s number one priority.
